Reasoning by Pastor Sherry Petro-Surdel
Symptoms of Post Traumatic Church Syndrome are very similar to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, including flashbacks, avoidances, mistrust and even hostility. The inspiration for this Reasoning came from a hilarious, courageous and profound book of the same title as the Reasoning, by Reba Riley. The book is about one woman’s desperate, funny, healing journey to explore 30 religions by her 30th birthday. The end of her interfaith journey led her to end this book with, “The impossible is far more possible than you know.”

May 22: Maybe
Reasoning by Pastor Sherry Petro-Surdel
We are often determining whether an event in our lives is good or not good for us. We put a judgment on the happenings of our life, yet we say, “All is well, for highest good.” This Reasoning deals with the MAYBE…

May 8: Mother Earth Direction
Reasoning by Singing Man
The Mother Earth Direction is the fifth of the Seven Sacred Directions. On the medicine wheel it is represented by the color green. Since the beginning of time, people of all cultures have developed a reverence for the Mother of all things, maintaining that the Earth is their mother. Then, there are those who continue to destroy the very essence of our Mother. Our Sacred Mother is rebelling through earthquakes, weather calamities, and global warning. We are taught never to forget this direction in our prayers and ceremonies. I say these things so that we as the two-legged mammals, can be more respectful to our wonderful mother and begin to take care of her for all of our relations. Most people would never harm their own mother. If she were sick, would we not nurse her back to health? Our Earth Mother has become very ill. She is running a fever. If she gets sick enough she will die. If she dies, all of Creation will die.
All is not lost, there are many things we can do to prevent any more damage from happening. Singing Man will discuss basic philosophies to help us to maintain our respect and reverence for Mother Earth.

April 24: Awestruck
Reasoning by Pastor Sherry Petro-Surdel
Oh the wonder of it all! There is a new psychology called Wonder therapy. Research has shown that it can diminish anxiety and increase enjoyment. It is also a way to tame the “monkey mind” and remove the “tyranny of the ego.” How awestruck are you? Your answers to a few simple questions can determine that. Awe is a next of kin to gratitude and we all know how powerful it is to be in a state of gratitude. Now imagine a tool alongside of gratitude which can elevate our experience.

April 17: Outwitting the Devil, Freedom and Success
Reasoning by Pastor Sherry Petro-Surdel
Whatever your belief system is regarding “The Devil”, what will be presented this Sunday could be one of the most important revelations of our time on this subject.
For over 70 years a manuscript was hidden. Most recently it was found and released to the public. It is a dialogue with the opposite of God. There are amazing revelations that can free us and our minds so that we can soar. You will not want to miss this Reasoning.

Reasoning by Pastor Sherry Petro-Surdel
Easter Sunday is a wonderful time to transform. Are you feeling a little dead lately? Where has your liveliness and/or your zest for living gone? March 20: Seeing in the Dark – Rock Sunday
Reasoning by Pastor Sherry Petro-Surdel
Here at Spirit Space we celebrate Palm Sunday by following one of the most important metaphors in the Palm Sunday message. It involves rocks. Each person will receive a rock instead of a palm. Also, Pastor Sherry will be looking at the idea of the Dark Night of the Soul, introduced by John of the Cross.

March 13: In a Perfect World Sleeping Beauty Does Not Snore
Reasoning by Pastor Sherry Petro-Surdel
We were taught that Sleeping Beauty was perfect. This Reasoning is a reflection on the concept of perfection. With the belief of perfection comes judgment, insecurity and a sense of imperfectness. Maybe some religions were created on the myth of perfection. Just maybe authentic connection with God comes with knowing we were created imperfectly perfect.

February 28: The Challenges and Promises of an Interfaith Church
Reasoning by Pastor Sherry Petro-Surdel
Interfaith as a faith offers a spiritual path broad enough to include all and it also offers an alternative to destructive, divisive paths. It is a path for those who would like to learn from the world’s diverse faiths without being pressured to abandon their own. That is the promise. So what is the challenge? Join us for a look at the promises and the challenges. Then ask yourself, “Am I up for a good challenge?”

February 21: Insights from the Gospel of Thomas
Reasoning by Pastor Sherry Petro-Surdel
In the late 1990s, the Gospel of Thomas was discovered. It is quite different from the gospels found in the New Testament. There is a reason as to why the founding church fathers did not allow the Gospel of Thomas to be included in the New Testament. This Gospel is often referred to as the “secret sayings” of Jesus. To read and understand this Gospel, one must want to go deeper spiritually, must not be afraid to ask the tough questions, and must desire to not be blindly led. If this is something you are intrigued by, then you will not want to miss this Reasoning.

January 10: The Parable of the Good Samaritan
Reasoning by Pastor Sherry Petro-Surdel
Last month we spent time looking at the Aramaic Jesus. We looked at the culture, customs and language of Jesus. This Reasoning is the Parable of the Good Samaritan with the perspective of the culture and time of Jesus. It is quite possible that the message Jesus may have been communicating was about breaking down the social structure that the religious traditions had created. This Reasoning is timely not only with the political and religious issues of our time, but comes right before Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday.
